| Controversies | ⢠On 9 October 2018, she accused Vairamuthu (a Tamil author, poet, and lyricist) of sexual harassment, which became a part of #MeToo India Campaign. According to her, the incident happened back in 2005 or 2006, when she went to Switzerland with her mother for the recording of an album. After the recording, everyone had left, only she and her mother were asked to stay back. Some Lesser Known Facts about Chinmayi
She belongs to a family with a rich musical background. Her paternal grandfather, Dr. Sripada Pinakapani was a Padma Bhushan awardee.
She was raised by a single parent (her mother) as her father had left the family when she was just one-and-a-half year old. In her childhood, her mother was her singing guru. She taught her Hindustani Classical Music and Carnatic Music.

She spent a few years of her childhood in Mumbai and then shifted to Chennai with her mother, at the age of 6. There, she started her schooling.
She has inherited the music skills from her mother and started her musical journey at an early age.
At the age of 14, she won a singing competition show, âSaptasawarangal;â which was aired on Sun TV. Throughout the competition, singer Srinivas liked her voice so much that he took her with him to meet A. R. Rahman .
She made her singing debut in 2002 at the age of 15 with the National Award winning movie âKannathil Muthamittal.â She sang âOru Deivam Thantha Poovaeâ for the movie and came into the limelight with her very first film song. The song was composed by A. R. Rahman.
She made her Bollywood singing debut with the song âHoli Reâ for the film âMangal Pandey: The Risingâ in 2005. Since then, Chinmayi has lent her voice in several Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films.
In 2005, she became the founder and CEO of âBlue Elephant;â a language services company.
She has hosted Star Vijayâs reality show âSuper Singerâ and Star Plusâ show âChote Ustaad.â
She has been a Voice Over Actor for almost 50 films in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
She has also been a Radio Jockey for a show, âAahaa Kaapi Klubâ on Aahaa FM 91.9 in Chennai.
In 2011, she was chosen for the Fortune/US State Department Global Womenâs mentoring partnership program. She was one out of 26 women and the first woman from Tamil Nadu to be selected for the same.
In the same year, she launched a mobile app, âChinmayi Sripada.â After this, she became the first female singer in the world to have an exclusive app on Android and iOS devices.
