Chhaya grew up in a middle-class family in Kalina, a suburban locality situated in the southwestern part of Mumbai.

She has loved sports, especially kabaddi, since childhood. According to her, she failed her class 12 examinations as she was engaged more in sports than in her studies. During her college days, she played kabaddi at the national level.
Chhaya performed in theatrical productions during her school and college days. After making her acting debut with the Marathi play ‘Zulva’ (also spelt as Zulwa) in 2007, she performed in other Marathi plays such as ‘Angaai.’

She started her career in the Marathi film industry with the film ‘Baimanush’ in 2010; however, the film was not released.
