During her childhood, she attended the Dragon Theatre in Wales.

She left home in Barmouth, North Wales and moved to London to get enrolled at the Ravenscourt Theatre School in Hammersmith, West London with her brother when she was 13.
In an interview, she talked about her love for theatre since childhood and moving to London to join the acting school and said,

I’ve loved drama since I was seven and appeared in lots of amateur plays. At 12 I wanted to go to drama school. My parents thought it was a phase, but a year later when I still wanted to do it they drove me to London to find somewhere.”
In London, she found the behaviour of the family she moved in with was not very hospitable. She would often feel homesick and cry while talking to her mother on the phone.
After 6 months, her mother too moved to London while her father stayed in Wales.
Her parents divorced after she was cast in the British TV show, ‘EastEnders’ in 1999.
