Some Lesser Known Facts About Chandan Tiwari
She was born and brought up in a middle-class singer family in Bhojpur, Bihar.
Since childhood, she was interested in singing. While she was studying in school and college, she participated in various singing competitions.
She considers her mother as her first teacher as she did her initial training singing and playingtheĀ harmonium under her mother.
She started practicing singing with her mother through harmonium in her childhood. Her mother taught her to play harmonium.
She then did her professional training in singing under later Shiv Prasad Pandey.
Chandan Tiwari mainly sings in Bhojpuri, Nagpuri, Awadhi, and Hindi.
While she was studying in school, she performed the song āDeshwa Ke Dihalu Vardan Maiya Bhartiā for the first time in public.
Gradually, she started performing in various stage shows and live events.
In the early days of her singing career, Chandan used to sing bhajans in temples and schools.

She used to cover her study expenses with the money she used to get from stage shows.
It was in 1998 when her father was sitting on a dharna with the employees of HCL company regarding their demands. Her mother asked her to sing the national song at the dharna. She agreed to it and receive appreciation for her singing from the people there.
She has performed in a few TV shows like Sur Sangram and Jila Top Program.
She considers the Bhojpuri Folk Song singer Sharda Sinha her idol.
In 2008, Chandan Tiwari was given the Folk Jalwa Shreshth Praman Patra by the Uttar Pradesh Government.

She has also hosted some folk music-related TV shows including āRadio Mirchi, Radio Dhoom, and Radio Snehi 90.4 FM Siwan.
In an interview, she said that in her childhood, the people of her village used to taunt her father and mother for letting their daughter Chandan dance and sing. People even insisted her parents get her married at the age of 14 or 15.
She is also called Bhojpuri Kokila.
Chandan Tiwari has been featured on the cover page of India Today Magazine for her contribution to Indian Folk Music.
She has performed various music forms like Chandan Pachra Gandhi Geet, Purbi Sohar, Nadi Geet, Chhath Geet Kajri and Thumri.
She has worked on a research project on rare and rural Bhojpuri songs for Maithili and Bhojpuri Academy, Delhi Government.
She has also worked with Bhakti Sagarās show āBig Magic Ganga TV.ā
Chandan has done folk geet and Ghazal recording shows on the set of All India Radio Patna.
She often talks against obscenity in the Bhojpuri music industry.
She has started a YouTube channel named āChandan Tiwari (Purabiyataan).ā

On 15 October 2017, she participated in a program of music fest āBhujal Bhatā in Hague, Netherlands. In that program, she sang songs written by Bhikhari Thakur and Mahendra Mishra.
