Chanchal Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi actor, who is known for his work in Bangladeshi films and television industries.
During his third year of college, he became a part of ‘Aronyak,’ a theatre company established by the well-known Bangladeshi actor and filmmaker Mamunur Rashid. He remained associated with the group for nearly a decade.
In 1998, he played the role of Laley in the stage play ‘Shangkranti,’ produced under the Arannyak Natyodol Production.
His performance as Shubhro in the stage play ‘Che’er Cycle’ in 2003, received immense appreciation from the audience. The play was produced by Bengali Theatre Production.
He has performed in various stage plays including ‘Prakritojoner Kotha’ (1999), ‘Ora Kodom Ali’ (2000), ‘Mayur Singhason’ (2003), ‘Joyjoyonti’ (2004), and ‘Rarang’ (2004).

He became popular after he was featured in a TV commercial for Grameenphone, a popular telecom company in Bangladesh.
Before becoming an actor, Chanchal Chowdhury worked as a lecturer of Fine Arts at the University Of Development Alternative (UODA) in Bangladesh.
After making his television debut with the TV show ‘Shilalipi’ (2004), he appeared in the television series ‘Talpatar Shepai’ (2006) in which he played the role of Bulbul.
In 2007, he played the role of Fiza in the TV series ‘Vober Hat,’ which aired on Channel i.

He received critical acclamation for his performance as Japan Doctor in the television series ‘Sakin Sarisuri’ (2009), on Channel i.
After making his debut in the Bangladeshi film industry with the film ‘Rupkothar Golpo: A Fairy Tale’ (2006), he appeared in the Bangladeshi Bengali film ‘Monpura’ in which he played the lead role of Shonai. In 2010, an Indian Bengali version of the film was made and released under the title ‘Achin Pakhi.’

He played the supporting role of Kaluah in the Indo-Bangladeshi Bengali musical drama film ‘Moner Manush’ (2010), which is a biographical portrayal of a 19th-century Bengali spiritual leader, poet, and folk singer named Lalon (played by Prosenjit Chatterjee ).
In 2014, he appeared in the TV show ‘Ujan Ganger Naiya’ in which he played the role of Arif. The show aimed to highlight the negative consequences of early marriages and adolescent pregnancies. It was broadcast by BBC Media Action (BBCMA) Bangladesh, on channel B TV.

In 2021, he played the role of Black Ronju in the Bangladeshi web series ‘Contract,’ which premiered on ZEE5.
In 2022, he appeared in the Bangladeshi mystery-drama film ‘Hawa’ in which he played the role of Chan Majhi.

In an interview, he revealed that his parents wanted him to pursue a career in engineering rather than in acting.
Chanchal Chowdhury started working in the television industry in 2004 after Fazlur Rahman Babu, a popular Bangladeshi actor, introduced him to the filmmakers Gias Uddin Selim and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki for a television commercial. He also sang the jingle for the television commercial. After two years, he won the Meril-Prothom Alo Award for the Best Model for the advertisement. In an interview, he talked about this and said,

One day Mostafa Sarwar Farooki asked me to meet him. He explained the script for the advertisement to me and I soon agreed as I felt that I could realise the emotion in the script.”
In 2021, Chowdhury was trolled by a group of religious zealots after he posted a picture with his mother on Mother’s Day in which his mother was seen wearing sindur on her forehead, which is a symbol of their Hindu faith. As a reaction, Chanchal decided to share poems that support unity and better understanding among people of various religions, urging everyone to show respect for and accept each other’s faiths.
