After bowing out of the 2012 London Olympic Games in the group stage, MarĂn got a tattoo of the Olympic rings on her left wrist, which acted as a reminder of the defeat and motivated her to work hard for the next Olympics.
Carolina MarĂn played for the Bangalore team named Banga Beats in the inaugural edition of the Indian badminton League (IBL) in 2013.
In August 2014, she defeated Li Xuerui from China in the BWF World Championships singles final and became the first Spaniard to win a World Championship title and the third European female player to achieve the gold medal.
