| Gallantry Award | Sena Medal (Gallantry) by the Indian Army in 1995 Note: In 1992, Captain CR Leena was posted with the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Gorkha Rifles (3/5 GR) in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir. On the night of 16 July 1992, CR Leena, along with her convoy of troops from 3/5 GR, was moving to the battalion's headquarters. En route to the headquarters, the convoy, led by Delta Company of 3/5 GR, came under heavy gunfire from the insurgents and inflicted casualties on the Indian Army. Being the battalion's Medical Officer (MO) CR Leena, without caring for her safety, provided medical aid to the wounded soldiers under a heavy volume of fire. This resulted in CR Leena saving many lives. On 15 January 1995, she was awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry) for her actions.  |

In 1984, after completing her schooling in the science stream, she appeared for the pan-India Armed Forces Medical College’s (AFMC) entrance examination and joined the AFMC as a doctor cadet.
After completing her MBBS in 1989, CR Leena was commissioned into the Indian Army as a lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps (AMC).
In 1992, she was deployed as a Medical Officer (MO) with the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Gorkha Rifles (3/5 GR) in Anantnag, Kashmir.
In 1995, for her gallant actions, CR Leena was awarded Sena Medal (SM).
In 1996, CR Leena took premature retirement from the Indian Army as a captain.

From 1996 to 2000, CR Leena served as the junior resident doctor in the Holy Family Hospital.
In 2000, CR Leena received a promotion and was made a senior resident doctor at the same hospital, where she continued to work as a senior resident doctor till the end of 2001.
In 2002, CR Leena joined the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center (RGCIRC), where she served as a clinical assistant till 2003.
From 2004 to 2007, CR Leena served as an associate consultant at the Rockland Hospital situated in New Delhi.
In 2008, CR Leena joined the Fortis Hospital in New Delhi. There, she worked as a consultant till the end of 2013.
From 2014 to 2015, CR Leena worked as a consultant at the Dharamshila Cancer Center.
After leaving Dharamshila Cancer Center, in 2016, CR Leena joined the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center as a consultant for surgical Oncology.
In 2021, Shivrit Dadhwal, son of CR Leena, revealed on Twitter that his mother is the first woman officer to have received a medal for gallantry and not Colonel Mitali Madhumita , who has been cited by many renowned media houses as the first Indian military’s woman officer to have received a Sena Medal for gallantry.
