Some Lesser Known Facts About Bibi Rajni
Bibi Rajni grew up in a wealthy family.
She was a disciple of Guru Ram Das Ji.
She was often scolded by her father for her extreme devotion to God.
One day, she was sitting with her sisters, admiring the clothes that their father had bought for them. While her sisters discussed how blessed they were to have such a good father, Rajni said that all those gifts were ultimately from God and their father was only an instrument of God’s goodness.
Unfortunately, her father overheard their conversation and became so angry with Rajni that he got her married to a leper man, who was severely disfigured and had a very foul smell coming from his body. Her father taunted her that he would see how her God would help her lead a normal life with him.
Rajni graciously accepted her fate and began working hard to support her crippled husband.
She kept enchanting the name of God and had faith in him. She believed that God was testing her in the tough times.
Rajni managed to earn a living for her family sometimes by doing labour work and sometimes by begging.
Rajni usually carried her husband along with her in a basket. She took all the responsibilities- bathing and feeding her husband well in time.
Once, while she reached a pool on her way to a neighbouring village, she placed the basket containing her husband by the side of the pool under the shade of a beri tree and went to look for food.
Meanwhile, her husband noticed a black crow dip into the water of the pool and come out white. Surprised by the miracle, her husband crawled to the edge of the pool and managed to take a dip in the water. As soon as he came out, he found himself completely cured.
When Rajni returned to the place, where she left her husband, she was amazed to find her husband in good health. Initially, she doubted, if he was a different person. However, her husband left one of her finger undipped, which still had the leprosy marks. After he showed his finger to Rajni, she believed him.

Rajni and her husband thanked God and went to Guru Ram Das Ji to seek his blessings.
Guru Ram Das Ji guided Rajni’s husband to start a business of trading of clothes. The business prospered well.
Later, the place where the pool was situated became the site of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
The beri tree near which Bibi Rajni’s husband had washed away his disorder later came to be known as the Dukh Bhanjani Beri Tree.
A gurdwara and a women’s college at Patti are named after Bibi Rajni.
In 1974, a film based on Rajni’s life was released under the name Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam.

In 2024, a film titled Bibi Rajni, which was based on Rajni’s life was released in theatres. The Punjabi actress Roopi Gill portrayed the character of Bibi Rajni in the film.
