Some Lesser Known Facts About Bi Nguyen
Bi Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American MMA fighter who competes both as an amateur and a professional in the Atomweight and Strawweight divisions.
In 1995, she and her family relocated from Vietnam to Oakland, California, USA and arrived in the USA on 3 March 1995. She began working in newspaper delivery when she was just 10 years old, often working late into the night until 3 am. By the time she was 15, she made the decision to leave her family and move to Houston, Texas. She learned how to drive and purchased an apartment by the age of 17.

While working as a waiter at a hotel, Bi Nguyen met a boy. According to one source, their relationship lasted for 5 years, and as per another source, it was a year. She described this relationship as abusive as her boyfriend often hit her, kicked her, and even stabbed her.
There was a particular incident where her boyfriend was overspeeding, and she was in the passenger seat. Police attempted to stop them due to their high speed, but her boyfriend refused to halt following which a chase started. Her car eventually lost control, flipping and rolling over six times. Bi Nguyen was taken to the hospital by the police where medical staff noted her prior injuries. At the age of 21, she began taking self-defence classes in Muay Thai while working as a salesgirl at a car showroom. Her journey into martial arts continued when she started competing in amateur MMA tournaments in 2014 and made her debut in the Texas-based promotion Legacy FC. Her first amateur fight was against Ashley Milligan, which she won.

She later faced financial challenges and started working and living at the gym, where she did cleaning and front desk tasks in exchange for a place to sleep and a gym membership. Her determination paid off when she won the King of the Cage Atomweight title by defeating Tonya Leis on 13 November 2015.

She became a professional fighter in 2016 when she faced off against Andy Nguyen in her first professional fight, which she won. In 2018, she signed a contract with ONE Championship, a major MMA promotion. During her time with ONE Championship, she won fights against opponents like Dwi Ani Retno Wulan and Ritu Phogat ; however, she faced challenges in matches against fighters like Bozhena Antoniyar, Nong Stamp, Jihin Radzuan, Jennifer Olsim, and Heqin Lin.

She parted ways with the ONE Championship organization in August 2022. In November 2022, she participated in the Matrix Fight Night (MFN -10) Championship where she competed for the strawweight division title against Puja Tomar, which she lost. As of 2022, she holds a record of 6 wins and 9 losses in her professional MMA career.

In 2018, Bi Nguyen participated in the 37th season of the reality TV show ‘Survivor.’ She was assigned to the David team and was part of the show for 10 days. She had to leave the show early due to a knee injury she suffered while performing a task. In 2022, she took on a mentor role in the show ‘India’s Ultimate Warriors,’ featuring the host Vidyut Jammwal and other mentors named Mykel Hawke, Shaun Kober, and Shifu Kanishka.
