Later, he said that the intellectuals and secularists were a threat to the nation and accused them of speaking against the army personnel while living off the tax money. Later, the BJP leader was enraged after Modi tweeted about the floods in Bihar and not Karnataka; he then through a tweet criticised Narendra Modi . In an interview, he pointed out that if the central government continued their lack of concern on the issue, the people will turn against the party and he berated the 25 BJP MPs who were part of the 17th Lok Sabha and accused them of not being vigilant enough to help the state in their need of the hour, especially Tejasvi Surya . On 4 October 2019, the BJP central leadership demanded an explanation from him and issued a show-cause notice from the leader for his anti-party actions and criticised him for spreading lies about the party leadership by belittling the efforts of the central government and the BJP MPs from the state. Later, in an interview, he clarified that his actions were not against the party and denied the accusations that he rebelled against the government. • Ridiculed a freedom fighter In 2020, the politician questioned the freedom fighter H. S. Doreswamy for his criticism of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the BJP leaders. In an interview, the politician labelled the freedom fighter as a “fake freedom fighter’’ and alleged that he was an agent of Pakistan. In January 2023, the BJP high command warned Yatnal not to speak badly about B. S. Yediyurappa ahead of the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election. He alleged that many people paid Rs. 50 crores to Rs. 100 crores to be made a minister in the state. Later, he warned his followers that there were a lot of fraudsters in politics and that they should steer clear of such fraudsters. Following the statements from the BJP leader, the then-president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), D. K. Yediyurappa; he alleged that Yediyurappa was pressurized by Nirani using some CDs to include him in the cabinet. The politician reportedly said that if anyone spoke against India or Hindus, their fate would be decided on the road instead of sending them to jail; some reports suggested that he was referring to the murder of the gangster-turned-Uttar Pradesh politician Atiq Ahmed . • Controversial Remark on Sonia Gandhi On 28 April 2023, Basangouda while addressing a rally at Yelburga of Koppal district in Karnataka, attacked Sonia Gandhi and associated her with a vishkanya (venomous maiden). Yatnal made derogatory remarks against her while he was replying to Mallikarjun Kharge 's remark against the Prime Minister.
