Avinash Yelandur is a renowned actor known for his power-packed performances in five different languages in the film industry. Avinash Yelandur is his stage name.
Avinash Yelandur was born and raised in a middle-class orthodox family.
Before moving to film, he worked as an English lecturer at the National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru. He continued to teach at MES College, Bangalore, as one of the most popular lecturers of the college.
During an interview, he revealed that while teaching, he attended a theatre workshop by British director Peter Coe in Mysuru, which sparked his interest in theatre.
To learn theatre and acting, he left his teaching job at MES College, Bangalore, moved to London and joined a theatre named Mermaid Theatre there.
In an interview, he once mentioned that he started getting plays in London, but being an Indian proved to be a language barrier in getting enough roles in their plays. So he returned to India.
After returning to India, he worked in Kannada theatre with renowned theatre artists B Jayashree’s theatre named “Spandana” and with Shankar Nag in his theatre named “Sanketh” for many years.
Some of his popular theatre plays are Indrajala, Huliya Neralu, Ondu Lokada Kathe, and Kudure Banthu Kudure. His performances in theatre plays got the attention of filmmakers, and he started getting film offers.
In a career spanning more than two decades, Avinash has worked on more than 500 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. He has worked with more than 200 film directors and actors.
Some of his popular films are Madhvacharya (1986), Chinnari Mutta (1993), Singaaravva (2003), Chigurida Kanasu (2003), Apthamitra (2004), Chandramukhi (2005), Aaptharakshaka (2010), RX Suri (2015), Mounam (2020), and Suraari (2023).
In 2001, he got married to his long-time girlfriend, Malavika Avinash , who was also his co-star in his debut TV serial, Mayamruga (1998). Avinash is 14 years younger than his wife.
In an interview, he once mentioned that Dr Rajkumar (a renowned Kannada actor and writer) is his all-time role model. He admired his acting and writing style.
Avinash’s most notable work was in the film Dweepa (2002), where he played the role of the protagonist opposite actress Soundarya .
In an interview, he once mentioned that he was heavily influenced by the playwright and actor Girish Karad. He also helped Avinash in shaping his career in Kannada films, especially in historical and mythological films.

Avinash was one of the founding members of a club named “SnehaLoka”, which promotes sporting activities among the film fraternity.
