Some Lesser Known Facts About Ashwin Kakumanu
Since childhood, Ashwin had a deep love for movies and was a cinephile.

His love of classics like Rambo, Star Wars, McKennaâs Gold, & Batman comes from his dad as he introduced them to him.
He is a fan of classics like Star Wars and won his first video camera in 1997 after participating in the lucky draw contest organized by Star Movies.
When he received his first camera, he directed his friends and family in it while also acting. This is where his passion for acting sparked.
When his father was a young man, he wanted to act & be in the movies but his grandfather discouraged his father & put a stop to it. His father passed on his dream to him.
Ashwin worked on a print ad for Coke with Thalapathy Vijay , where he acted as his friend but sadly the ad never came out. He also did an Airtel ad with Ramcharan and Swati Reddy.
To impress directors he came up with an interesting idea. He got a card which said, âAshwin is who?â and featured pictures of him in different avatars. On the set of Enthiran, he happened to meet Rajinikanth . He too liked his business card and took one with him
Even though he wasnât landing any lead roles, he didnât give up. Instead, he kept trying out for character roles instead of sitting around waiting for a lead role to magically come his way.
He auditioned for a role in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa but that didnât fall through. But this little exposure to Gautham Vasudev Menon got him a brief role in his Nadunisi Naaygal, as Sameera Reddy âs boyfriend.
Mankatha came as a game changer and gave him much-needed recognition with the audition.

He made a short film with an emotional monologue for the directors which got him a role in Mankatha. S.P. Charan saw the clip and recommended Ashwin to Venkat Prabhu, saying that there is a guy who has the height, and weight and is also white and would suit the role of a Mumbai cop. Venkat Prabhu was impressed with the video and passed it along to his circle and to Ajith Kumar too. He then had a meet-up with Ajith and things fell in place.
His mother was always supportive despite being from a non-filmy background.
He enjoys the process of filmmaking because it combines everything he loves, cool visual effects, great acting, editing skills, and amazing art design.
As a young child, Ashwin also learned to play the violin for 2 years and thought of himself as a prodigy.

Although heâs usually a bit shy, as soon as the camera starts rolling, he becomes a whole new person, lighting up whenever he hears the word âactionâ.
Ashwin loves cosplaying and often posts pictures on his Instagram account dressed up as various characters, including John Wick, Calvin Candie, and Saket Ram.
