He was born into a modest family in Chennai. He is the only son among the six children of his parents. He has two real sisters and three stepsisters.

Arun started his career as an actor in 1995. He was just 18 years old when he made his debut with the movie āMurai Mappillaiā.
Thereafter, he appeared in many movies but, they were not a big hit. After almost 17 years, Arunās talent was recognized, and he started getting movies with big stars.
In 2015, he appeared in the movie āYennai Arindhaalā with the superstar āAjith Kumar ā. He played the role of an antagonist. He worked out in the gym for almost 6 hours a day to make his look in the movie more appealing.
