Apsara Ratnakaran started acting when she was studying in 3rd standard.

In an interview, she said that she got her artistic talent from her mother, who used to work as an actor at Kerala People’s Arts Club (KPAC) before marriage. Later, her mother quit acting as her father did not allow her to act after marriage.
She learned acting and dancing from her teacher Deepa and took part in many school plays.
Apsara later took part in an acting camp at her school and was featured in a documentary which gave her the confidence to pursue a career in acting.
Her father died in an accident when she was studying in 8th standard.
She later started working as a model and appeared in many magazines.

When she was 20, she had a love marriage against the wishes of her family. However, the marriage ended in a controversial divorce.
She later acted in many Malayalam TV serials such as Sthreedhanam (in 2012 on Asianet), Parasparam (in 2013 on Asianet), Parishudhan (in 2017 on Flowers TV), and Pournamithinkal (in 2019 on Asianet).

Apsara has also hosted many TV shows such as Badai Bungalow (in 2013 on Asianet) and Best Family.
She met Alby Francis for the first time when she was acting in the TV serial Ullath Parajal and dated him for 2 years before marrying him.
Her mother was against her marriage to Francis as he was a Christian but later agreed to their marriage.
When the news of her marriage to Alby Francis broke out, she said in some interviews that she faced domestic violence during her first marriage and also said that she was about to commit suicide as she was not happy with her life at that time.
She also filed a police complaint against her first husband. Later, her first husband, Kannan Roy, did an interview and said that the allegations of domestic violence were false but these allegations affected his career.
She came to the spotlight when she appeared as a contestant in the 6th season of Bigg Boss Malayalam which aired on Asianet and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
