Appani Sarath grew up in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Sarath began performing as a child artist in theatre at five. Over the years, he participated in various stage shows and cultural festivals across Kerala, including with the Thiruvananthapuram Kalamandiram Nataka Sangham.
He also explored mono-acts, music, dance, and full-length dramas, and soon became a multi-talented performer.
In his youth, he joined left-wing political movements and took part in street theatre and plays by the Shastra Sahitya Pareeksha Vedi.
Sarath gained recognition for his role in the street play ‘Cyclist,’ first performed at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) in Kalady. Its success led to multiple shows across Kerala.

Sarath then joined the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit for a postgraduate degree in drama, where he acted in several plays and started directing as well, inspired by Narendra Prasad’s play ‘Friday.’
While pursuing his postgrad, Sarath auditioned for a film on campus and got selected for ‘Angamaly Diaries’ (2017), where his role as ‘Appani Ravi’ became a breakthrough.

His appearance as ‘Franklin’ in the Malayalam film ‘Velipadinte Pusthakam’ (2017) was appreciated by viewers and critics.

He has appeared in many other Malayalam films, including ‘Pokkiri Simon’ (2017), ‘Sachin’ (2019), ‘Lovefully Yours Veda’ (2023), and ‘Kirkkan’ (2023).
