Anrich Nortje started playing cricket at a very young age.

He is a fitness enthusiast and while he was in school, he was guided by biokineticist, Runeshan Moodley.
When he was in his 11th standard, he suffered from a collarbone injury while playing rugby, after which, he decided to focus only on his cricket career.
Anrich Nortje made his first-class debut in 2013 for Eastern Province against Namibia at Windhoek, Namibia.
Earlier, he used to play cricket at the Madibaz Cricket Club.
He was also named in the Eastern Province squad for the 2016 Africa T20 Cup.
In October 2018, Anrich got selected to play for Cape Town Blitz for the Mzansi Super League (MSL) T20 cricket tournament.
In November 2018, he has been forced to leave the MSL T20 cricket tournament midway due to an ankle injury.
In the same year, he represented South Africa A team in a tour to India, but he played only one four-day game on that tour.
In December 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him at a base price of ₹20 lakh for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
