Some Lesser Known Facts About Anjana Krishna
Anjana Krishna hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
She belongs to a middle-class family.
Anjana is the first civil servant from Vilavoorkal village panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram.
In an interview, Anjana mentioned that her family wanted her to go into the medical field rather than civil service. However, Anjana has been interested in civil service since childhood.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, she did not go for a postgraduate programme and joined a UPSC exam coaching centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Anjana interned for six months as a news reporter with a leading Malayalam daily newspaper.
She failed in her first three preliminary examinations and cleared the UPSC examination on her fourth attempt in the 2022–23 cycle and secured All India Rank 355, which led to her selection for the Indian Police Service and training with the 2023 batch.
Anjana’s first posting was at Karmala in Solapur district, Maharashtra, as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
In August 2025, Anjana made headlines when she led a joint operation in Kurdu village of Solapur district against illegal murum (sand) excavation.

To investigate, Anjana Krishna arrived at the scene of action. There, she talked to local villagers and NCP worker Baba Jagtap. Jagtap directly dialled Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and handed the call over to Anjana. A video from that operation went viral on social media. In the video, Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar was talking to Anjana and saying,
Suno, mai Deputy Chief Minister bol raha hoon aur aapko aadesh deta hoon ki voh rukwao (Listen, I am the Deputy CM and I am ordering you to stop it). Tujhe mujhe dekhna hai na. Tera number de do ya WhatsApp call karo. Mera chehra toh aapko samajh me aaega na” (You want to see me, right? Share your number or call me on WhatsApp. You will recognise me then).
Initially, Anjana didn’t recognise him and asked him to call her on her number. Later, he connected with her directly through a video call, instructing her to stop the action and coordinate with the local Tehsildar.
Anjana’s calm and professional response during this incident won widespread praise and being dubbed as Lady Singham.
Despite the pressure from political leaders, she did not back down. She continued with her duty, and later a case was filed against the four individuals for unlawful assembly and obstructing public servants.
After this incident, National Congress Party (NCP) Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) Amol Mitkari called for a UPSC-level investigation into Krishna’s documents, including educational qualifications, caste certificate, and other relevant documents. However, on 7 September 2025, he withdrew his demand and issued an apology for raising doubts about her credentials.
