Some Lesser Known Facts About Angela Paxton
Angela Paxton grew up in New Braunfels, Texas.
When she was born, her mother was a college student. Soon after Angela’s birth, her mother put her up for adoption, a fact she later credited for her commitment to the anti-abortion movement in the USA. Angela was adopted by a couple who were unable to have children.

Angela met her husband, Ken Paxton , while they were both students at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. At that time, Ken was serving as the student body president. Their relationship deepened throughout their college years, eventually leading to their marriage in 1986. Angela and Ken have four children and 5 grandchildren.

Angela was the first one in her family who attend college at that time.
In 1998, Angela Paxton and her husband, Ken Paxton, along with a group of other individuals, co-founded a Christian evangelical megachurch named Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas. The couple later joined megachurch Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano, Texas.
Before entering politics, Angela spent more than two decades teaching mathematics in various public schools. She has also worked as a home teacher, where she taught four children from kindergarten to Grade 3.
In 2006, Angela joined Legacy Christian Academy in Texas, where she worked as a guidance counsellor. In this role, she provided Biblical counselling to students, faculty, and parents. She has worked there till 2017.
In 2017, Angela Paxton joined politics. When Van Taylor vacated his seat in the Texas Senate to run for Congress, Angela Paxton joined the race for District 8.
Angela Paxton ran against businessman Phillip Huffines in the Republican primary.
Angela’s Senate campaign was the most expensive in Texas history, costing over $10 million, while she raised about $3.7 million. She also got $2 million loan from Ken’s campaign.
Paxton won the primary race by nine points and went into the general election very confidently. In the 2018 general election, she defeated Democratic challenger Mark Phariss narrowly by two points.
On 8 January 2019, Angela was sworn in as State Senator, representing District 8.
She is the first educator to hold a seat in the Texas Senate for over two decades.
In February 2019, Angela Paxton introduced Senate Bill 860, which would have granted her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton , the power to issue exemptions from state securities regulations.
The bill was widely seen as potentially benefiting her husband’s office, as Ken Paxton was facing pending securities fraud charges at the time. However, Paxton said the bill to change state securities law “has literally nothing to do” with a criminal case charging her husband, Ken Paxton, with defrauding investors.
As a senator, Angela has advocated for several bills, including those that would limit abortion access, prevent transgender teens from receiving gender-affirming care, simplify the process for banning books in school, and permit the use of taxpayer dollars for education savings accounts. This voucher-like program would enable parents to use public funds to pay for their children’s private school fees.
Angela Paxton was considered her husband’s closest political advisor. Her name has often come up in her husband’s controversies, such as during the deadly 2021 winter storm in North America, they travelled to Utah, USA, to meet the state’s attorney general, whom Angela defended as part of her work to promote “human dignity” and law enforcement. In September 2022, she helped Ken Paxton avoid being served a summons in an abortion-related lawsuit.
In 2023, Angela Paxton was one of the senators involved in the impeachment trial of her husband, who had been impeached by the Texas House of Representatives while serving as the Attorney General of Texas. However, the Senate voted to bar her from participating in the voting for her husband’s impeachment trial. However, Angela Paxton was still required to attend the trial.
In February 2025, Paxton introduced Senate Bill 13, which proposed shifting control of school library catalogues from librarians to boards of parents appointed by school board members. This would allow parents to have any library book removed from the shelves immediately, even if the decision is pending from the school board.
On July 10, 2025, Angela Paxton tweeted that she had “filed for divorce on biblical grounds.” The court filing claimed that Ken Paxton was at fault for committing adultery and stated that the couple had not lived together since June 2024. Her husband has been having an extramarital affair since 2018.
