In 2014, her husband saw an ad for the competitive cooking reality television game show ‘MasterChef Pakistan Season 1.’ He then asked Ammara to fill out the entry form for the show, but she was a bit hesitant. Her husband then motivated her to participate in the show. She made a cold dish in the live cooking challenge round of the show and received appreciation from the judges. She was the only contestant in the show who did not face any elimination round. On 27 July 2014, she was declared the winner of the show, and on winning, she received Pakistani Rupee 5,000,000 and a cookbook deal, along with a free supply of Ariel washing powder for five years.

In an interview, while talking about making her career as a chef, she said,
I started watching MasterChef USA and MasterChef Australia and I used to follow them religiously. While watching these shows I could picture myself standing in the MasterChef kitchen at my own cooking counter.”
She has appeared as a celebrity chef in the YouTube cooking series ‘Philips Healthy Kitchen’ (2020).

In 2021, she conducted a live cooking class on Facebook in collaboration with Skillston Institute.

Ammara has worked as a judge in various Pakistani TV shows like ‘The Kitchen Master’ (2022; Express TV) and ‘Junior Chef Pakistan Season 2’ (2022; Aan TV). In 2023, a video of a contestant from the TV show ‘The Kitchen Master’ went viral in which the contestant had brought a dish from a restaurant to present infront of the judges of the show instead of making the dish herself. She was annoyed to know that the contestant brought the dish from a restaurant. Ammara backlashed the contestant for wasting the time of the judges with her act.
