Aminah Nieves was interested in acting since her school days.

She also trained at the Hammond Arts & Performance Academy (HAPA), Indiana.
She later moved to New York, where she got background acting jobs while working as an herbalist, doula (non-medical professional who helps women before, during, and after pregnancy), and a clothing store salesman.
She tried to find a main role for 8 months, but moved into her parents’ house with $21. But her manager kept looking for roles and finally found the lead role of Teonna Rainwater in the film 1923 in 2023.

When she was confused about whether she should accept the role or not, her manager supported her. Her mother also told her to accept the role and accompanied her to the auditions.
She once said in an interview that she was very careful while playing the role of Teonna Rainwater in 1923, as she believed that she was representing indigenous people from all around the world.

She learned the Crow language and also learned horse riding.
During the premiere of 1923, her father got emotional while watching her acting and started crying out loud, after which she had to console him.

While growing up, she dreamed of being a musician, but later became serious about acting.
In 2025, she signed a deal with Netflix for a film with co-stars Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson.
She has also acted in many short films and films such as Charissa in V/H/S/99 (2022), Cam in Volition (2023), and Jessica in The Demon of Dumbo (2024).
She once advised young and struggling actors in an interview that they should meditate and ground themselves, and visualise their goals.
