Some Lesser Known Facts About Amardeep Singh Aujla
Amardeep Singh Aujla is a lieutenant general in the Indian Army who served as the 31st General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Chinar Corps in Kashmir. He became the Indian Army’s Master General Sustenance (MGS) in May 2023.
Aujla belongs to a family with a military background and is a fourth-generation army officer.
Aujla cleared the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) after completing his graduation and joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun in 1985.
After completing two years of rigorous military training at IMA, Aujla became a second lieutenant in the Indian Army’s 13th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles on 19 December 1987.
After commissioning, he attended the Young Officers (YOs) course at the Infantry School in Belgaum.
Aujla was sent to Kashmir after getting promoted to the rank of major. There, he was appointed as the company commander of his battalion from 1994 to 2004.
After that, he was shortlisted to attend the Higher Command Course of the Indian Army at the Army War College in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
Aujla was appointed as the 2IC (Second-in-Command) of his battalion following his promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
After completing his command of the 15th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, Aujla was posted to the Infantry School in Belgaum, where he served as an instructor in the Commando Wing.
After that, Amardeep was chosen by the army to train the Bhutanese Army under the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT).
Upon returning to India from Bhutan, he was posted as a Colonel General Staff (CGS) at one of the corps of the Indian Army.
Amardeep was posted at the Directorate General of Perspective Planning (DG PP) in New Delhi after he became a brigadier.
After getting promoted to the rank of major general, Aujla was posted to the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (IHQ of MoD) (Army) in New Delhi.

On 9 May 2022, Aujla was sent to the Kashmir-based XV Corps (Chinar Corps), where he relieved Lieutenant General D. P. Pandey as the corps commander. As a commander, he oversaw the Indian Army’s anti-terrorist operations in the Kashmir valley, which led to a sharp decline in the militancy in Kashmir.

In 2023, when Lieutenant General K. J. S. Dhillon retired from the army, he handed over his uniform and the accolades worn on the uniform to Aujla.

In April 2023, Aujla replaced Lieutenant General Cariappa as the Colonel of the Rajputana Rifles.
