Some Lesser Known Facts About Amar Preet Singh
On 21 December 1984, Amar Preet Singh joined the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot from the Air Force Academy in Dundigal.
During his service in the Indian Air Force, he held many staff and teaching positions.
From 22 July 2002 to 1 August 2004, Amar Preet Singh served as a Commanding Officer in No. 22 Squadron at Hashimara and led it in operating MiG-27 fighter jets.
In 2005 and 2006, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project in Moscow, Russia.
On 1 April 2011, Amar Preet Singh was appointed as a Principal Director (Projects) at Air Headquarters, Delhi. He served in the position till 29 December 2011.
He has worked as the Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment and played an important role in testing the HAL Tejas fighter jet.
From 31 December 2011 to 29 December 2013, Amar Preet Singh served as Air Officer Commanding at 15 Wing in Bareilly.
After becoming an Air Vice Marshal, he served as the Air Officer Commanding of 2 Air Defence Control Centre in Bangalore and Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 29 November 2014 to 31 July 2016.
On 1 August 2016, Amar Preet Singh was appointed as a Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre under the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore. He served in the position till 30 September 2018.

As an Air Marshal, he served as Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command in Shillong from 1 February 2021 to 30 June 2022.
Amar Preet Singh was responsible for the integration of the Brahmos missile on the SU-30.
On 1 July 2022, he was appointed as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command in Allahabad, after Air Marshal Richard John Duckworth retired on 30 June 2022.
On 1 February 2023, Amar Preet Singh became the 47th Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS). He replaced Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, who retired on 31 January 2023.
As VCAS, he led Tarang Shakti, the biggest multinational air exercise ever held in India, which ended in September 2024. During the exercise, he flew many missions to show the strength of India’s home-built Tejas fighter jet.

On 21 September 2024, the Government of India appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh as the Chief of the Air Staff.
On 30 September 2024, Amar Preet Singh became the 28th Chief of the Air Staff. He took over the position from Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, who retired after serving more than 40 years.

In February 2025, at Aero India 2025, Singh criticised HAL for being slow in delivering the Tejas fighter jets.
Once, during a media conversation, he spoke in favour of using Indian-made defence systems instead of buying them from other countries.
Amar Preet Singh has flown many fighter and trainer planes. He has over 5000 hours of flying experience.
He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an experimental test pilot.
Amar Preet Singh has flown both fixed-wing and helicopter-type aircraft.
