In childhood, she used to practice posing wearing a crown. While she was studying in school and college, she won Miss Beautiful Smile title in various contests.

After her class 12, she appeared for an entrance exam in engineering.
Initially, her father was strictly against her decision of making her career in acting.
In 2009, she received an offer of the film Malayalam film āNeelathamara.ā
Initially, she changed her screen name to Anakha on the advise of the Indian film director Samy. However, when her films flopped, she dropped the name and started using her real name.
She has acted in various Malayalam films like āIthu Nammude Kathaā (2011), āRun Baby Runā (2012), āShajahanum Pareekuttiyumā (2016), and āLevel Crossā (2024).

In November 2020, she moved to the Chennai High Court to take action against her ex-boyfriend Bhavinder aka Bhavninder Singh. According to Amala, Bhavinder had allegedly shared a few pictures of Amala on his social media accounts; claiming them to be wedding pictures of him with Amala. However, she denied that those were their wedding pictures and said that the photos were taken for professional work. She even demanded a stay to publish her pictures with Bhavinder Singh and also filed a defamation case against Bhavinder.
Later, she filed an FIR against him for cheating and harassment. According to her, Bhavinder Singh forged documents and cheated her for money.
She has appeared in a few TV series like āKudi Yedamaitheā (2021; Telugu), āRanjish Hi Sahiā (2022; Hindi), āRaju Vootla Partyā (2022; Tamil), and āVictim: Who is Next?ā (2022; Tamil).
