Some Lesser Known Facts About Alana King
Alana’s parents moved to Victoria from Chennai in the late 1980s.
Alana started playing tennis at the age of five and wanted to pursue a career in tennis, but because of her father and brother who also played cricket, she started playing cricket later. She also played other sports like softball and baseball.
Alana also served as a ball kid during the women’s singles final of the 2011 Australian Open.
Alana was born in Clarinda, Melbourne and grew up playing cricket mostly with the boys.

Alana once shared an incident in an interview where she said that she and her family both faced racism in the past. Her father, Leroy, was a young immigrant in Melbourne, and one of the most terrifying experiences was when the police pulled him up at gunpoint due to his dark hair and beard. However, it later turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
Alana likes to travel and explore places around the world.

In 2012, Alana won her first rookie contract at the age of 16 with VicSpirit in the Women’s National Cricket League.
In April 2019, Alana was awarded a contract from the Australian women’s cricket team.
After not getting many chances in her home state, Victoria, Alana moved to Western Australia to play in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL).
Alana was part of the Perth Scorchers squad and helped them win their first WBBL title in 2021. She ended up as the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Alana was the second-highest wicket-taker for Australia during the successful 2022 World Cup campaign. She picked up 12 wickets in the tournament in nine matches including a spell of 3 for 64 against England in the final match.

After retiring from cricket, Alana wants to become a physical education teacher, a profession she wants to take to help young girls and boys have an energetic lifestyle. She once said in an interview,
I think every athlete has to (have a futuristic approach) because sports is not going to be there forever. Although we’d love it to be, realistically it’s going to be there for a short amount of your life so you got to be prepared and plan for that next phase and hopefully it’s a lot later than you expect. As long as you have got a plan in place, I think that is something that matters.”
In December 2024, Alana was bought by the UP Warriorz for the 2025 season of WPL.
