After completing his formal education, Akbar Khan started learning Indian classical music in 2011.
In May 2016, he began working as a freelance vocalist and guitarist in Thrissur, Kerala.

In 2018, Akbar Khan began working as a playback singer in the Indian film industry.
He has lent his voice to popular songs in many Malayalam films, including Alliyambal (2018), Margamkali (2019), and Edakkad Battalion 06 (2019).
In 2019, Akbar Khan participated in the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Keralam, organised in Kochi, India, where he earned the title ‘Best Performer of the Season.’
