  • Aditya Choudhary is an Indian athlete who is the record holder of being the world’s youngest Ironman.

  • Ironman 70.3 or Half Ironman is one of the series of long-distance triathlon races, which is organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). It is comprised of a 1.9 km long swim, 90km bike ride, and 21.1 km run that totals up to 113 km or 70.3 miles.

  • At the age of 5, he had certain ENT issues due to which he underwent his first surgery for Adenoid. A tube was put in his ear and he was forbidden from swimming by the doctor.

  • He enjoys playing musical instruments and has also been playing tabla since the age of 6.

  • After a few years, he began swimming again, and his Adenoid regrew. In 2012, he had another surgery in which his tonsils were also removed.

  • Later, he joined Judo, but his ENT issues led to some changes in his facial structure, and he got braces after which he wasn’t allowed to play Judo as well.

  • He then started swimming again along with cycling and running. This is when his journey to become the world’s youngest Ironman began.

  • In January 2014, Aditya completed the standard chartered marathon with his father.

  • In 2019, before the triathlon, Aditya got chickenpox and stopped training for a few weeks. He then decided to move to his college hostel to save the commute time and invest that time in training for the event. check sources Youth Connect

  • The minimum age to participate in the triathlon is 18 years, and coincidentally, Aditya turned 18 on the day of the triathlon in 2019, i.e., on 7 December 2019, becoming the world’s youngest Ironman.

  • The triathlon event was held in Bahrain, and Aditya took 6 hours, 5 minutes, and 4 seconds to complete the event.

  • After successfully making the record, in an interview, he expressed,

    The moment I finished, tears were flowing- this was the most precious moment in my life! Every time I got tired or cold due to the swim or my muscles felt as if they were on fire, I could only recollect the hard work that went into training for this day, for the past 6 years. Besides, I wanted to achieve this for our country”

  • He took training from his mentor, Dr. Mihir Patki, who is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine doctor. After Aditya’s victory, his coach said,

    Aditya, with his commitment and resilience, has now inspired me to take part in Ironman coming up in Melbourne in 2020”
