Abhishek Ray is an Indian fashion designer and academician who came into the limelight on 3 July 2022 when he tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with his gay partner Cheitan Sharma . Abhishek Ray actively contributes as a teacher and mentor in the most prominent universities and institutes of India in the field of Fashion Design.

In a media interview, Abhishek Ray stated that he used to help his school friends in designing their ethnic attire. He said,
The vamps of Indian cinema like Helen, Bindu and Aruna Irani enthralled me as much as the bouffant-decked Sharmila Tagore who oozed a certain urbanity and chic. Suchitra Sen was another classy actress who knew how to carry what she wore. I used to even help my school friends design their ethnic attire.”

After the Covid 19 lockdown unlocked in India, Abhishek Ray and Chaitanya Sharma planned a trip to Agra where Chaitanya proposed to Abhishek in front of the Taj Mahal for marriage. In a media conversation, Abhishek Ray talked about his excitement on the proposal day. He said,
We made a trip to Agra, where he proposed to me, in a very filmi way, right in front of the Taj Mahal. Because, casually, I had told him I am a very Bollywood-y person and that it was my dream to see the Taj Mahal with my partner.”

In an interview with a media house, Abhishek Ray stated that he could not call himself lawfully wedded as same-sex marriage was not legally recognised in India. He said,
I like to call it a wedding ceremony. I can’t call myself lawfully wedded but yes, I am wedded and Chaitanya is my husband.”
