| Controversies | In 2015, Abhishek Kapoor filed a lawsuit against actor Farhan Akhtar , accusing Farhanâs production house of giving writer Pubali Chaudhuri the sole credit for the script of 'Rock On 2'. The director stated that he had been working on the story for around 4 years and despite the hard work, he was deprived of his 'right'. Abhishek Kapoor is a cousin of Tusshar Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, as his mother, Madhubala, is the sister of actor Jeetendra.
Abhishek and filmmaker Aditya Chopra were classmates at both school and college. However, an impulsive Abhishek dropped out of his college in the final year, thus parting ways with his âbest friend.â
The future filmmaker started off his career as an actor. However, because of lack of opportunities, he got stuck with B-grade films.
After a failed acting career, Abhishek started an online talent and ticket management website. The business soon died and Abhishek was back to square one.
A young Abhishek Kapoor was also seen in the music video of Jagjit Singhâs âChak Jigar Ke Si Lete Hain.â
He then took the path of film direction and cast Sohail Khan in his debut directorial film- Aryan (2006). The film, however, failed to perform well at the box-office.
Despite failing thrice in forming a career, a dejected Abhishek did not give up. He wrote a new script and approached his old âfriendâ Farhan Akhtar to be a part of it. Farhan was so impressed by his script that not only did he decide to act in the film (Rock On!), he even agreed to produce it. Eventually, the movie became a huge commercial success and Abhishek heaved a sigh of relief.
Rock On! even fetched him the âNational Awardâ for âOutstanding Contribution towards Cinema.â
Both his films, Kai Po Che (2013) & Fitoor (2016), were adaptations of popular novels. While Kai Po Che was based on Chetan Bhagatâs âThe Three Mistakes Of My Lifeâ, Fitoor was inspired from Charles Dickenâs âGreat Expectationsâ.
Abhishek, who was once a âfailureâ, now owns a production house by the name of âGuy in the Sky Pictures.â
