Some Lesser Known Facts About Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala
Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala was a veteran filmmaker in the Indian film industry. He is known for producing more than fifty Hindi films such as Pradeep Kumar and Dara Singh starrer âMahabharatâ in 1965 and âHera Pheriâ and âWelcomeâ in the 2000s. On 22 August 2022, he died due to cardiac arrest at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. His son and producer, Firoz Nadiadwala informed his death news in a media statement.
Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala belonged to a wealthy family of Nadiad near Vadodara in Gujarat. After venturing into the Indian film industry, he launched many banners such as AG Films and Pushpa Pictures. He was one of the founders of Nadiadwala Films, a production house established by his father A.K. Nadiadwala and brother S. Nadiadwala.
Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala began his film production and media entertainment company in 1953. He was one of the founding members of the major Nadiadwala films banner and studios in Mumbai and Gujarat.

Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwalaâs film-producing career spanned over five decades in the Bollywood industry. He produced several memorable Hindi films including âAa Gale Lag Jaâ in 1973, âLahu Ke Do Rangâ in 1997, âShankar Shambhuâ in 1976, âJhutha Sachâ in 1984, âSone Pe Suhagaâ in 1988 and âWatan Ke Rakhwaleâ in 1987.

Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala was associated as a partner in Empire Audio Centre with Yusuf Lakdawala. His nephew, Sajid Nadiadwala is a well-known film producer in the Bollywood film industry who runs a separate production house. He was also into the business of realty investment, and reportedly, once, his family controlled around 5,000 acres of land in the Malad-Goregaon suburb.
In 1995, Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala established an educational institution named The Juhu Irla Education Society (JIES) and Fatima A. K. Nadiadwala High School in Juhu Gali, Andheri (West) in memory of his late mother.

In 2015, in a media conversation, Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala disclosed how he planned the budget for his films. He said that he kept the aesthetics and requirements of the film in mind while planning the budget. He narrated,
We first understand the dynamics of the story and screenplay before we put down our expenses. Even if we end up spending a little more, we ensure that the money spent should be visible in terms of both, sensibility and quality.â
Veteran Indian actor Ajay Devgn penned a condolence message on social media soon after Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala. According to Indian actor Ajay Devgn , his father and Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala worked together as associates during the golden era of Indian cinema. Ajay Devgn wrote,
Deepest condolences on the passing of Gaffarbhai Nadiadwala. My father and he were associates during the golden era of our cinema. Om Shanti A.G. Nadiadwala Saab. My condolences to the Nadiadwala family.â
