| Controversies | Heated exchange during an ongoing match Siraj was involved in a heated exchange with Travis Head during the second test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in December 2024. The incident happened when after dismissing Travis Head in the 82nd over, Siraj came within close proximity to him and gave him a send-off by pointing towards the direction of Australiaās dressing room. Travis Head also reacted in an aggressive and inappropriate manner after which they both were charged with breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Some Lesser Known Facts About Mohammed Siraj
Mohammad Sirajās family isnāt financially well-off; his father drives an auto-rickshaw in Hyderabad. He never went to a cricket academy or had a coach and used to play street cricket with a tennis ball. He did not know what inswing and outswing deliveries were then.
He started playing cricket as a batsman but later developed into a bowler. He got the idea when one day while playing gully cricket, his friends told him that his bowling was way better than his batting skills. To this date, Siraj credits his friends for his success.
It was his elder brother who pushed him into professional cricket.
He initially joined the Charminar Cricket Club in Hyderabad. His coach Mohammed Mahboob Ahmed at the club said in an interview how he spotted his talent. He said,
My friend Mohammed Kaleem,Ā a vegetable seller, first saw Siraj play on the streets. I went to the Vijay Anand Garden to meet Siraj. After watching him bowl, I inducted him into my club. Siraj took five wickets against Balaji Cricket Club in 2014 in his very first match playing with the leather ball. In the next two matches, he claimed 15 wickets, using his height to good effect,ā
The 2015-16 Ranji season proved to be a big milestone in Sirajās career. He ended the season with 41 wickets in just 9 games, thus paving the way for his selection into the āRest of Indiaā squad for the Irani Cup.
Siraj earned a sum of INR 10 Lakhs for representing Hyderabad in two consecutive seasons of the Ranji Trophy. With this amount, he wishes to buy a new home for his parents.
On 15 November 2015, Siraj made his first-class debut against Services under the coaching of Karthik Udupa playing for Hyderabad in the 2015ā16 Ranji Trophy tournament.
Siraj made his Twenty20 debut on 2 January 2016 in the 2015ā16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament.
Siraj took 41 wickets at an average of 18.92 and ended up as the highest wicket-taking bowler of the 2016ā17 Ranji Trophy tournament. His impressive performances throughout the tournament helped him to a spot in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the 2017 edition of IPL.
Siraj was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping INR 2.6 Crores for the 2017 edition of IPL.

On 4 November 2017,Ā when he made his international debut for India in place of Ashish Nehra in the second T20I match against New Zealand in Rajkot, he got very emotional and cried during the Indian national anthem.
Siraj was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auctions for Rs. 2.2 crore.

On 10 January 2021, during the third Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, a group of Australian spectators, in a series of racist slurs, called Mohammed Siraj a āBrown Dogā and āBig Monkey.ā Later, the Indian pacer approached the on-field umpire pointing towards the stands, and the action was paused as police ejected six fans from the stands.
Sirajās first Test wicket was of Marnus Labuschagne.
Siraj took his first five-wicket haul in test cricket against Australia in January 2021 during the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Siraj became the No. 1 ODI Bowler in the ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers on Ā 21 January 2023.
In September 2023, Siraj made headlines when he took 6 wickets against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final match and helped India win the tournament. He also became the joint fastest bowler to take a 6-wicket haul in ODIs equaling Chaminda Vaasās record of taking 5 wickets in 16 balls against Bangladesh in the 2003 World Cup.
Siraj was part of the Indian cricket team squad which won the 2024 Menās T20 World Cup in West Indies.

On 11 October 2024, Siraj was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Telangana Police. He was also offered a plot after India wonĀ the ICC T-20 World Cup in 2024.

During the IPL mega auctions held in December 2024, Siraj was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs. 12.25 crore.
In January 2025, after rumours of him being in a relationship with Mahira Sharma began circulating, Mahiraās mother gave an interview in which she claimed the reports to be false and baseless. She spoke about it and said,
Yeh kya bol rahe hai aap. Aisa kuch bhi nahi hai. Log toh kuch bhi bolte hai. Abhi meri beti celebrity hai toh log apna muh kholke kisi se bhi uska naam jod denge, toh hum kya usse maan le. Yeh khabar puri tarah se jhooth hai.ā
